My project for the 2nd Design Award “Light your idea” of Riva 1920 was devised in Moscow at the studio of my friend Ashot Ter-Abramyan and the inspiration resulted from a fortuitous coincidence of dates…
The bed “Elba” in fact takes its name from the island which, exactly 200 years ago, hosted Emperor Napoleon, to whom the particular historical period of furniture known as “Empire Style” is traced back.
The idea was really derived from the sinuosity of the alcoves designed in those years and it was thought in solid oak and walnut wood, worked with numerical control machines and equipped with a special semi-padded headboard in natural leather.
The “curl”, which decorates the perimeter spars, was also re-proposed for the other elements of the room: dresser and bedside table. Here, in particular, the decorative element, which envelops a simple wood monolith equipped with an open compartment and a dresser, also fulfils the functional role of a handlebar.
The tops were thought with a special insert of the same material of the headboard so as to standardize and enrich the composition.
